Social platform X decides to hide ‘likes’ after updating policy to allow porn

X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, is implementing changes that will make users’ “likes” less visible.

On Tuesday, X’s engineering team announced that “likes” will become private for all users to “better protect” their privacy.

Here are the key changes users will notice:

  • Users can still see their own liked posts, but others will not.
  • Like counts and other metrics for users’ posts will still appear under notifications.
  • Authors of posts will still be able to see who liked their posts.

This change comes after a recent policy update regarding adult content. Earlier this month, X revised its policies to allow the posting of consensually produced adult content and pornography, provided it is “properly labeled and not prominently displayed.”

According to the updated policy, the platform supports sexual expression as a legitimate form of artistic expression and believes in the autonomy of adults to engage with content that reflects their beliefs and desires, including sexual content.

However, X will continue to prohibit pornographic content that is exploitative, nonconsensual, or promotes objectification, obscene behaviors, or harm to minors. Additionally, adult content cannot be used for profile pictures, banners, or other publicly visible areas.
