Donald Trump questioned whether Taylor Swift is ‘legitimately liberal’ in forthcoming book
Former President Donald Trump questioned pop star Taylor Swift’s political leanings, according to an excerpt from the upcoming book “Apprentice in Wonderland: How Donald Trump and Mark Burnett Took America Through the Looking Glass” by Variety co-editor-in-chief Ramin Setoodeh. In an interview last year, Trump asked Setoodeh, “She is liberal, or is that just an act? She’s legitimately liberal? It’s not an act? It surprises me that a country star can be successful being liberal.” Trump also described Swift as “very beautiful” and “very talented.”
Swift, who endorsed President Joe Biden in 2020, criticized Trump’s leadership during the COVID-19 crisis, accusing him of undermining voting rights. In her 2020 documentary “Miss Americana,” she expressed regret for not participating in the 2016 presidential election and criticized Republican Senator Marsha Blackburn, referring to her as “Trump in a wig.” Trump responded at the time by joking that he liked Swift’s music “about 25% less.”
While Swift has not yet endorsed Biden for the current election cycle, The New York Times reported that Biden’s campaign is seeking her endorsement. Additionally, some Republican figures have speculated about Swift’s relationship with Kansas City Chiefs player Travis Kelce, suggesting it might be a PR effort connected to Biden’s campaign.
