‘Pluie, rain’: Taylor Swift sings in a downpour on Eras Tour’s first night in Lyon, France
Taylor Swift’s first night in Lyon, France, for the Eras Tour was marked by rain. As she floated onto the stage during the “Speak Now” era, she exclaimed to the sold-out crowd at Groupama Stadium, “Pluie, rain,” acknowledging the French word for rain.
Gray clouds hovered over the open-roofed stadium during the first hour of Swift’s inaugural show in this Eastern French city. The band played under tents on both sides of the stage, and the VIP and production booths were similarly sheltered. Many audience members donned colorful ponchos.
What began as a light sprinkle during “Enchanted” soon turned into a full downpour during the “Reputation” era. Swift and her dancers embraced the rain as she sang, “Baby, let the games begin.” The majority of the rainstorm took place while Swift performed in her red and black bodysuit.
During the “Folklore”/”Evermore” set, Swift sat at a moss-covered piano and commented on the weather. “We have officially had a rain show tonight, and that is set,” she said before performing “Champagne Problems.” “That is permanent. It doesn’t matter if it doesn’t rain again.”
‘Happy Pride Month, Lyon’ During “You Need to Calm Down,” an LGBTQ anthem for many Swifties, Swift celebrated June’s Pride Month. “Happy Pride Month, Lyon,” she said as wristbands across the stadium lit up in rainbow colors and the audience waved their hands in unison.
Swift has one more show in Lyon on Monday night before heading to Edinburgh, Scotland, for three shows this weekend.
