Warnings of heavy rain across UK after hottest day of year
Following the hottest day of the year so far, weather warnings for rain have been issued across the UK.
On Sunday, temperatures soared to 26.5C (79.7F), surpassing the previous year-to-date record of 25.9C. Heathrow in London recorded the highest temperature during the afternoon.
Brighton beach saw a surge in visitors, with thousands enjoying the sunny weather while it lasted. In the city center, car parks reached capacity, leading to queue times of 10 to 15 minutes.
However, the Met Office has cautioned that the warm and sunny conditions may come to an end by Monday morning. Fresh warnings for heavy showers have been issued across Scotland, Wales, and northern England, with three yellow warnings for thunderstorms still in effect.
While thundery showers are expected to ease overnight in most areas, eastern Scotland may still experience them. Eastern areas of Northern Ireland are also likely to see heavy rain on Monday, with a warning in place until early Tuesday morning.
Flood alerts have been issued for England and Scotland, particularly in southwest England and southern Wales, where heavy rain could lead to transport disruptions and possible flooding on Monday.
Residents in areas affected by rain warnings are advised to prepare for potential disruptions to public transport and power supplies.
Furthermore, thunderstorms are forecasted for western parts of the UK, including Wales, Northern Ireland, and Scotland, with additional storm warnings in place.
