Salomon index.01 Reviews
Two minutes
Big Kudos to Salomon for Index.01. This is one of the first companies to make performance shoes that can really be recycled and, despite the technical challenges involved, the end result is bona fide running shoes.
Indeed, when the race day appears, you might reach other shoes that are not built with sustainability in mind – maybe with carbon clay, and a little lighter (at 285g, this is not a driver) – but for regular training sessions, Park Runs, Tempo works, or a bigger weekend mileage, they really match the bill. After finishing with them, posting it back to Salomon for free, and they will be recycled to winter sports gear.
Price and release date
It was announced on September 2020 and released in the spring of 2021, Salomon Index.01 cost $ 200 / £ 165 (around AU $ 260), which also includes shipping costs back to Salomon to recycle at the end of their lives.
Design
Articulating various components in the coach is not easy. However, with indexes.01, this is not a problem, because it can really be recycled, simplicity is the key. In the previous prototype, Salomon tried to make shoes made from one material: polyurethane thermoplastic foam (TPU). However it is not long enough to last, so the designers add the second ingredient, and make the top of the recycled polyester. These shoes we see today.
The only one made from durable nitrogen-infusion slices, foam-based TPU called Infiniride. This provides a good number of bearings, but also remains strong. Under the heel is the height of the pile of 28.5mm, and the 19.5mm front legs make a 9mm drop.
Sol has a fairly curved form, which is intended to maintain a good landing and help with advanced propulsion. It also has an angular overhang and tilted at the back – it’s different but can have the effect of ‘love’ or ‘hate’ to aesthetic some people. This material is very durable.
Outsole has a minimum profile, only displays a little bobbles for the site. Even though this is grippy, and perfect for use on the road, the lack of substantial lugs means you should not be too far from the road to a loose or uneven surface. But normal streets, they are absolutely perfect.
The top is made of recycled polyester, and joins soles through a thin strip of water-based glue. It minimizes material contamination and ensures as many shoes may be recycled. The end result is material like a very breathable mesh – so much so you can see the color of your socks past it. It feels pretty soft, and there is a look-through panel on the side.
When shoes until at the end of their lives, it is enough to scan the QR code they follow and you will be able to post it back to Salomon, free. The two parts will then be separated, the only ones will be made into Salomon ski shoes, and above into the clothes. The life cycle of this shoe is then finished.
Performance.
This is a nice nonsense running shoe. It’s not too complicated – running on a really natural taste, so you will not emphasize unusual muscle groups or need time to get used to, and with curved soles, there is a jerk of advanced propulsion too.
With heel height as high as 28.5mm, there is a good bearing level, but the foam is not the one that is (not like, for example, zoomx nike foam), which we actually like for it for everyday everyday. Also, considering neutral settings, you can gladly use it to walk and general life too.
