Very successful sales force habits
There are five characteristics of extremely successful salespeople that I want to identify and describe within this article for you. You may, or may not, possess these traits in you. However, if you don’t, I encourage you to look at your selling style and your relationship with customers (which is probably your number one asset – but you cannot neglect the other three) and really determine whether you are a team player, a follower, or an enabler. Once you know which traits apply to you and your type of selling, you can start making a difference in your results as a salesperson.
The first trait of highly effective salespeople is an enamoring personality. In fact, many of the most successful salespeople in the world have one thing in common: they love their customers. They really do want to help people and make them happy. It really is an amazing quality that is sometimes missing from the sales team of other professions.
Another trait of highly effective salespeople is an influencer. An influencer is someone whose comments can be considered a “tactic” by a prospect. If you go to a seminar, listen to the pre-scheduled speakers, and then afterward listen to your own canned sales speech, what do you think you would get out of it? If you have been in business long enough, you probably know the answer – you get none. Influencers are individuals who make selling more effective through their sound knowledge of the product or service that they are trying to sell to a prospect.
The third trait of highly successful salespeople, which ties in nicely with the first two, is a consistent and relentless work ethic. These are habits that become hardwearing over time. Habits like doing the same thing everyday for years, developing routines for yourself that you perform on a daily basis, and staying committed to doing the things that matter most to you will drive your prospect to take action.
This also ties in with habit number three: good salesman mentality. All of these traits, individually or together, will not get you very far in business. What they do is to synergize and work together to create a good salesman. The trick is to keep those behaviors fresh and constantly in your mind so that you are always performing at your best as a professional. Habits, by nature, are habits, and effective salespeople know this and do what works best for them.
Finally, the last trait that you will need to be a good salesman is the ability to focus. When you are highly successful, you will have plenty of distractions. You will not have the time to think about what needs to get done and how you will accomplish it. You must have a laser-beam focus if you are going to see results in your sales skills. Any organization will tell you that when you can do that, you are miles ahead of the competition.
